Hello all, time to upgrade my wheels and I heard that Iroc rims fit perfectly onto these vans.
Going with 17's.
Found a few Irocs in the area but the bolt pattern is different

16 Inch Irocs Bolt Pattern 5 X 4.75 (used on 91-92 Camaro)
17 Inch Irocs Bolt Pattern 5 X 130

Mine is a '97 Safari, bolt pattern is 5 X 5,
I'm thinking of buying those 17's and some 5 X 5 to 5 x 130 adapters
Talk me out of it!

I have 17" Americans on my work van. Have run them for a few years. The ride is definitely harsher. I have put almost 100k mikes on them. Did bend a couple on a huge pot hole in the road. Would have been nothing with 15" wheels. Cost of being cool. Just don't get too small a tire. I have 225/55 and 245/50.

I run 18s, but don't have very low profile tires. I don't think the ride is harsh. But I also just replaced everything up front so that could be contributing.

225/55-18 front
255/55-18 rear

So about 2 3/4 inches. Sidewall on the back and 2.4 inches on the front. That's how much is between the rim and the road.

Just understand the low profile tires will make it ride worse. Feel bumps more and harder on suspension parts.
To a certain extent this is also dependent on the type and quality of tire you put on. During the summer months I put on 20" wheels (wider than stock) on Yokohama tires and it is astounding how smooth and plush she still rides compared to the stock tires/wheels. Pot-hole risk is higher, for sure. But as far as the ride is concerned, I am really happy with it.

Don't let haters talk you out of something that is 100% subjective. Just like food, music, or colors.
It's your van. You enjoy it as you please. See my posts relating to wheels, etc, which I have discussed ad nauseam. Here's what mine looked like with 20" on my previous 2001 year. Call me a "poser", or whatever you want... but for riding on decent roads during the nice weather months, she sat quite nicely, and people really let me know it. A couple even asked if it came like that from the "factory" lol.

Rubber band tires!!! OMG!!!

lol, how are ya Bis, haven't seen you in a while.
Yes, you surely drew out the haters. I could never run a low sidewall tire because I work my trucks and often on bad roads. Noe if that is what you like go for it. I've seen several lowered vans, many with low profile tires that really looked good, Bis just happened to have one of the prettier ones, and of course back then we had Lumpy...

Hey Butcher - Long while indeed! Hater's would be plural. Here I only noticed one, and hey, a welcome is a welcome, 🤪

But regardless, I picked these tires and didn't go with 22" wheels because that would put me on what I consider true "rubber bands" for our application. The size I chose is actually a very decent compromise between a standard size and a rubber band. IMO it's a pretty fair sweet spot. For years I have used that van for my line of work and carried heavy loads (no seats in the back). Obviously is not going to be something you want for towing extremely heavy trailers or going on true off-road expeditions, but again, it's not causing any damage and none of these 20" wheel-sets have yet to take damage while I owned them.

My requirement was that it had to look nice and be practical still, and even survive some surprise pot-holes on the road or the rare uneven dirt/gravel road to a work location. Nothing too crazy and, yes, they fit my taste and driving style.

To my point: what people like is subjective. Everyone has their own taste and I respect it. It may not float my boat but it's not hurting me so, I will shut up if I have nothing helpful to add to the conversation... 🤷‍♂️

I appreciate your compliment on my gone-but-not-forgotten 2001 "Emerald Astro". She was my dream come true, gone too soon!
