Hello,

New guy here with a 2000 AWD LT.

It appears my drivers side and passenger door locks are not locking or unlocking when I use the lock/unlock button. I can hear them trying to work and I can see a little movement but it seems like the lock actuators are no longer powerful enough to lock/unlock the doors.

How hard is it to take off the door handle/lock panel to get to the actuator? Is there someplace I can find instructions on how to take the panel off?

Also, is there anything else I should check before ordering new lock actuators?

Thanks!

Its not that hard to take the door panels off to get to the insides of the doors, but before you assume its the actuators, check the switches. I have had to replace practically all of my door lock and window switches on my 93 Safari. In addition, the wires wear out where they go through the door into the body. Check that too. I would guess either wires or switches way before I would blame the actuators. Also, steer clear of those cheap switches on eBay. I bought some and they lasted about a month, before I went to the dealer and got some that worked.

I would also recommend a factory manual. The one I have on my 93 has paid for itself in helping me track down wiring and other electrical problems a thousand times over.

Good luck with it.

Agree on the cheapies on ebay. Mine has lasted less than a year. There was a rivet holding it in place on mine that I had to drill out and replace with a screw. Other than that, piece of cake once you get the interior door skin off.
