does anyone have any info or links to a quiet muffler. I just got a 1995 AWD Astro and lordy the thing is loud, I did a quick inspection and the muffler and pipe appear to be in good shape no rusted out holes but wowza she just has a loud growl to her and I don't like it at all, i mean I ride harleys and love a good exhaust note but for my astro camper there is absolutely no need for a growling exhaust. like i said if anyone has any thinks to quiet muffler they've used or any info, also is changing a muffler something i can do with a jack and a few jackstands or is this something i gotta take in? thanks for any info, much appreciated!!!

do NOT get a Gibson. I love mine but it is not quiet.

If the bolts on the cat/flange are removable, there are several bolt on versions but most of the bolt on mufflers are more expensive than going to a small brick and mortar, and having them cut out your's and install a new one.

Even if there are no obvious holes, even a small hole can make a muffler noisy.. A good shop will check the whole length of the exhaust system and can weld/patch any holes and then replace your muffler pretty fast. and like I said, probably cheaper than a bolt on aftermarket "system". If that's an original muffler, it's almost certain that the bolts that hold the flange together will be rusted or frozen.

Generally it can be done yourself with basic hand tools, maybe borrow a tailpipe expander from LAPS depending on how you decide to do it. I know of a few places that can get it done quite cheaply for about the same that it will cost in parts. I have no clue how it is in Canada though.

I needed a muffler when I first got the van in 2008. A buddy gave me the cat back from a Ford Econoline, it was all that was in the budget at the time. It was silent, and it's still on there today. I believe it's the same muffler my 85 F150 used as well.

Monroe QuietFlow SS muffler. Just as quiet as stock, which I doubt you still have on a ‘95.

If you go to your local exhaust shop, they are constantly replacing the nice quiet stock mufflers on almost new trucks with cool sounding but really annoying mufflers. They will generally give you a really good deal on the takeoffs.
