Did you find out anything on this topic? I just swapped a set of aluminum rims and nuts to my 2001 cargo from a 97 lt and seem to have the same problem and yet my lug nuts look like yours, and don't seem to get a lot of thread.

yes I know this is an old post.
It seems that Gone Blue has gone and never reported his findings.
I and I’m sure others would like to know the answer to the question. I to have the same lug nut Situation.
I have two 1996 Astros, one rear wheel drive and one all-wheel-drive with the same wheels and they are both shown the lug nuts as the OP picture.
So does anybody know what’s up is this correct?
