To start with, My 99, Old Blue, didn't come with factory remote keyless entry. No code AUO on the door. I really really want a factory key fob though, so today I stopped by pick n pull and got this module from a 97 GMC Safari:

Tonight when I get home I'll pull the dash apart and see if by some small chance the wiring for it is already there. If not, I have the 99 factory service manuals from GM along with all the wiring diagrams. I should be able to wire it up. Then I need to order a key fob.

I did a search and can't see where anyone was as dumb as me and tried wiring a factory remote. I know it would be easier to just do an after market one but I'm kinda hard headed like that! Besides, everyone needs a project!

Before you get worried, open up your dash and look around - you might be pleasantly surprised.... depending on the trim level and other options on your van, it's possible that the wiring and plug are already there - just add the module and go... GM only made a few different wiring harnesses for these, and used them even if all the options weren't present....

If you don't have the plug already, then you'll have to work it out wire by wire ... in that case it would be invaluable to get the schematics and especially the pinout diagrams from the service manual.... Someone on the forum should be able to provide them for your year.... I can get them for you from my 04 manual, but not sure if there were any changes.....

I have the manuals already, got them on EBay. I'm going to find out here in about 20 minutes! I sure hope the wiring is already in place. I ordered a key fob from EBay a little while ago. $22 shipped.

$10. I'm not sure they knew what it was. Just said module. Lol. Anyway, if you need it, I can scan the wiring diagrams and post them if you need them. Doesn't look too hard to do.

I picked up this around five years ago for $120 thinking I'd install it in my IROC-Z.

When I opened the box, it looked like an electricians nightmare. Needless to say, it's still in the box.

Even though the kit has a GM part number, it was sourced from Code-Alarm. I still see them on ebay once in a while. I "think" GM offered another P/N with just the keyless entry sans the alarm.

So an update!! I finally got the key fob in that I ordered off of EBay. Cost way $23 shipped. Eh, not bad. Again, the keyless entry module was from a 97 Safari. Wiring was essentially five wires: Two orange for power, black for ground, light blue for door lock, and white for unlock. What I didn't bother hooking up was the wiring that turns the inside lights on when you unlock the doors or the wires that just unlock the rear dutch doors with the "rear" button. I may eventually do the lighting wiring, but I can't see a point to the rear doors. Oh, and the black wire with white stripe would normally go to pin 8 of the DTC but I didn't worry about doing that either since the only time I would use it is to put it into programming mode. I can manually do that.

Anyway, I spliced into the door lock/unlock under the drivers side kick panel, the wiring going up to the driver's side door. Ground was easy, and the power I ran straight to the fuse block. For programming mode, I just stripped back the black/white stripe wire and jumped it straight to pin 4 of the DTC. Hit the lock/unlock buttons at the same time on the remote and Presto!!! Factory keyless entry for a total of $33!! I tucked the RKE module up next to the emergency brake. Fit pretty well.

Anyone thinking of doing this, it's pretty darn easy. Just remember to get a remote for the year of the donor vehicle. On to the pics!!

Wired but messy:

The door lock/unlock splices:

The RKE module (and not a great pic):

Oh, the wiring diagram:
