I haven't seen it mentioned in awhile, so I had to do a search to remind myself that I wasn't dreaming. I remember some people recommending the Napa Echlin brass caps or other brass caps as being superior to the aluminum AC/Delco cap. In September of '06 I installed the Napa cap. I went till June of '07 and was almost stranded on the Fl Turnpike. I did not think it could be the cap, as I had replaced it less than 9 months ago. Sure enough, I took it off and it looked bad. I bought a new one thinking it might have been a fluke. That one lasted till Oct of '07 when I went and got an AC/Delco cap. I should mention that I live in Florida and maybe the higher humidity contributed to the problem. The Delco cap that was on there before lasted like three or four years. Also, before anyone says anything the screen and hole were/are fine.

I just replaced my Delco cap and rotor after almost two years. They could have probably went longer as they looked to be in still decent shape, but they do have 40k miles on them. If I think about it, then i will take a pic tomorrow.

Hi Ericglo

Pictures really do say a thousand words, and why I (personally) have "always" recommended Ac Delco or Delphi for the cap and rotor. Been down that road myself and no thanks. Mine lasted all of a week and a half on my "last" after market cap and rotor (with a tow bill to boot). Enough of that.

Thanks for the pictures.:)

Much better with no arching in that cap that I can see. The first set of pictures had some nasty arching in picture #2. (same as mine when it failed (arch lines)). Thanks for the pictures.:)

I would never recommend a NAPA/Echlin cap. I've had 2 on my Bravada - the second from a warranty replacement as the first lasted 100 whole miles. The 2nd didn't make it that long.

I made them credit me the Echlin cap cost to the Delco cap - which I'd asked for in the first place.

Yep, that's what always happens. The plastic around the button "shrinks" and it pulls the button away from the tap on the rotor. For a quick fix, you can bend the tap on the rotor upwards and it will work for a little bit. With these vans being stock, too much heat is allowed to stay in the back of the doghouse not helping the situation at all. Because of that, it doens't matter much about the screen in the distributor.

Here's a pic of my Accel cap I had on it a while ago.
