New fuel pump, now P1404 code

Hi!
Got a weird problem. Just changed the fuel pump assembly and fuel filter in my 99 Astro, 1 day later I've got a P1404 code (EGR not closing). Could I have done something when I changed the fuel pump? or is something totally unrelated and just a freak coincidence? I see alot of posts about carbon in the EGR valves, does this apply to the 99's as well?
Thanks in advance
steve

What was the reason for changing the pump? Was the pump dead or was fuel pressure not right or something else?
I would clean the EGR valve out. Assuming that the fuel pump was faulty and your fuel pressure wasn't what it should have been, now the change in the air/fuel ratio could change the readings.
