Sucks you lost the transmission. The nice thing is, our transmissions are a dime a dozen and cheap to rebuild (anyone charging $2500 with a good body with standard parts is a clown).

Also, I have a cooler that integrates the oil cooler and PS cooler. Also, I dumped whatever snake fluid has been rolling around for a decade and pumped in fresh ATF. Cheap and easy..and even a bit thicker. I did the same in my 2001 camry-much quieter.

There is a company out of Seattle that makes an upgraded steering box for the astro. $300+ with core. Might be worth it for those with 31 inch tires or bigger.

Yes on the PS! :driving:
^^ It is SO CUTE Leeann that you found a little emoticon that is "test driving power steering"... lol

Here's a closeup of my front end looking straight in.
You can see the little PS cooler next to and behind the fog light.
The location was ideal for routing in the lines... and in my case
utilized some of the support bracing from the trans cooler to the left.

I've seen a few of these builders... they are quite popular in the heavy duty 4x4 world. I can say though, that the stock box works fine with my 31" tires... maybe my pressure mod helped a little... which I also learned from the 4x4 sites.

Never heard of RedHead before but they sound legit. My wife doesnt notice or care how loose the steering is, so its low on my list. But when I decide to swap out the OE unit, definitely going to pony up and get one from these guys.

Redhead gets 2 thumbs up from me. I put one of their boxes in my '01 F350 7.3L crew cab 4x4 SRW. Great steering box.

Is it me, or are there two different parts in the picture?
The one on the LEFT appears taller than the one on the RIGHT.
Yes.. they are slightly different.. however the length is somewhat irrelevant since a pressure spring slips over the taller part anyway. The difference in length may vary from brand to brand, again irrelevant. There are likely however, differences in their internal pressure reliefs, depending on application.
