Great forum. Been lurking for a while so decided to officially join and post a question in the climate control section.

I've had my 2 owner 1999 Astro cargo for about 12 years and it's still a trooper. Came from Florida so there's no rust. Thought about painting it and tricking it out but I like the "incognito-ness" of the white van.

AKA the Creepy Van :)

No rust issues if you stay out of the saltwater. My trailer hitch is rusted into the receiver from putting my boat in the water. But the sun is really hard on the clearcoat, and if you live beachside the salt breeze will ruin your paint and oxidize any exposed metal. Especially on motorcycles.

Welcome from South Florida! (also rust free)
Will beat me to the "welcome to the white van club".. lol
(I'm also from Illinois suburbs, but that was over 50 years ago)
I wish I was back in Florida right now... temp here in central IL is 13 degrees.

Yes you are correct... living beachside, the salt-air will cause issues with body and paint.
We get surface rust on top, Northerners get rust underneath (as well as body panels).
I live a little futher inland, so no issues. Washing them regularly helps too.
I also stay out of the salt water.. lol.

Yes.. sun can be brutal.
I also ride.

80 degrees here in Fort Lauderdale today
(it was 85 over the holiday New Year's weekend)
This is about as close as I get to the water... Sunshine Key, Fl

My 92 is a South Florida native.. living here all of it's life.
It's also been garage/shop kept all of it's life too.
It's super clean. Even the taillight lenses sparkle like new...lol

My 2000 on the other hand, is from Whitefish Montana.
Fortunately, no suspension rust and very little elsewhere.
But it's not without a few livable issues.

Both of those are sweet. (y)
