been chasing ps fluid leaks on the van recently

I replaced both pressure lines and the steering shaft seal on the box and now theres quite a bit of fluid coming out of the front of the housing of the pump

I know people do seal kits on these pumps but at 200k Im thinking I might as well just replace the pump.
the van steering is heavy and noisy and it feels like its taxing the engine. i get a pump hiss/whine whenever I step on the brakes and the hydroboost has no feel, spongy. do you guys think a seal kit would really fix the issue?

if I do replace the pump with a new one, Im confused about the pumps that come with a reservoir vs those that dont. I have an '00 awd van with a remote reservoir mounted on the firewall.
I see no reason to replace the remote reservoir so I can just pick up a new pump that doesnt include the reservoir?

any help is appreciated
Mitch

The HydroBoost is a power booster that increases hydraulic pressure to the braking system. If you had a bad/restricted hydroboost to the master cylinder, the brake pedal would be hard. You have a "spongy" brake pedal and that has to do with the brake hydraulic system.

Yeah just buy the pump without the reservoir if yours is fine. I don't think I've ever seen a reservoir mounted on the pump for the gen2s. The Gen2s have the reservoir mounted the way you described.

Don't confuse reservoir with tank.
PS units are sometimes sold without the tank, since they vary.
Our vans have a separate feed reservoir, as well as tank on back of pump.
I always buy with tank (but they may call it the reservoir tank)
The pump is surrounded by a large seal that makes contact with the tank.
This is where they often leak

this is great info
I think they are referring to the pump mounted tank youre talking about when they say with or without reservoir on rockauto.

my pump is leaking from what looks to be the shaft seal or that big front housing seal youre talking about (or both)

thanks guys
