Hi, I have a 92' astro 2wd extended van with the round air cleaner, don't know if z or w. The other day it kicked into neutral while at highway speed. I didn't think too much about it. Today it did it again, bucked a couple of times and acted like it was in neutral permanantly. When it is in drive,reverse1,or 2 it works fine just no o.d.! The tranny is just treating o.d. like neutral. Also the van has 367,000 miles on it so I don't want to spend a ton of money on it, so i hope someone will say I can just drive it in drive and be fine! I doubt it though, Ha Ha! Thanks for any info.

Try moving the gear shift lever back and forth a little when you have it in O.D..

The detents get worn out and then the lever doesn't land in the right places. Another possibilty is that the linkage is worn or mis-adjusted, and when you put it in O.D., you really are in nuetral.

I had an S-10 like that once. I drove it for over a year.

When I finally decided to pull it apart(just 'cause it was driving me nuts), everything was worn out, so I couldn't pinpoint a cause.

I ended up installing a $75 trans instead.
