I've a 1998 AWD Astro which while driving!!! as suddenly lost power steering and power brakes, I've got fluid coming out under vehicle when engine is running, but its dark so I cant really see!!

I've checked the threads, am I right in thinking this is the sign of a failed power steering pump?? I didn't think the brakes and steering would be connected??

Actuly alot of astros have what is called (hydro boost) power stearing, fluid is sent to the master cylinder insted of vacuum
the two most likely are conected. So a bad power steering pump or line(s) are likely in youre future. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the reply, a pump is going to cost me a fortune!! I know that much.. I'm in the UK so most parts are 2 to 3 times more expensive

I just had the same problem and it was the shaft in the power steering (hyrdo boost) and cost be around $650.00 Can to get fixed by GM.
