been having trouble with my 93 2wd transmission check/change fluild and it doesnt switch over when i put it in reverse to make it go in reverse i have to give it alot of gas, while in drive everything is fine but while im stopping i hear something click on the transmission like something is loose or something. this transmission was put in a couple of months ago and it has about 70k on it. i also notice that when i put in in reverse my back-up lights dont come on until i wiggle the shifter. Could it be something loose on the transmission that cause this. One more thing my rear end seems to get stuck when i stop sometimes and when i hit the gas it pops loose.

If the pump was going bad, you would notice differences in all gears, not just reverse.

The automatic transmission can be tricky to work on. If you have no experience with it, I would not recommend doing it yourself. It would be easier and cheaper (comparing money and TIME) to get another transmission.

As Gary said, the reaction sun shell is busted. It will give you no reverse, second or fourth gears.

Just to check, drive on the highway and shift from OD to D. The RPM's won't change.

Recently had a similar problem, was backing up, heard a loud CLUNK & thought I had hit something. Pulled fwd. to check behind me, NOTHING THERE!! But when I went to back up again, it just sat there, & I had to have someone push me out into the street so I could go home. Luckily I can still go fwd., however, now I am having problems starting out fm a dead stop/low speed. Have to step on the gas to get mph's up to around 25-30, then lift off the gas to allow it to shift to second. The shift to 3rd is normal, but as someone else suggested, I haven't checked it to see if rpm's/engine noise remains 'constant' in 'O' & 'D'! One other thing, I don't hear any change in engine rpm's or speed if I pull it down into 2nd when trying to decelerate.

Local junk yard says they have a transmission for my van 'Road Tested' (?) & 'Ready to Go' for $650 + tax & $75 core chg. Any comments?
