Is it noisy only with the a/c on, or is it all the time?
If it is always noisy, the pulley bearing is probably shot.

It is nosiy sometimes without the a/c switch on regardless. Is there anyway to quiet it . I'm not financially ready to buy another compressor, and if it is the pulley bearing what needs to be done to that. I'm survivng without a/c but the squeaking is crazy...thanks for the response gtkane

If its the cluch failing you may be able to lessen the squeaking by gently pressing a screw drive tip in between the cluch and pully with the engine off . Some time when the cluch fails it dosent fully relese. hope this helps! :lookaround:

My A/C doesn't work. Has a hole in condenser. Compressor makes a very loud clicking sound, especially when above idle, revving or driving. I'm assuming the clutch bearing is failing.
I'm afraid the thing will seize and break the belt. So I just bought a A/C bypass pulley.
Much cheaper than replacing the compressor, condenser and recharging it.
I'm just trying to keep my van going for a while, it's on it's last leg unfortunately.
Thanks for confirming that my compressor clutch bearing is failing.
