I should get a Samsung 128 GB Solid State Drive and caddy in the mail today. This SSD, as they call them, will be used as the boot drive and most of the fun and work programs will be stored on the secondary HDD. (1 TB in size) I have watched many Youtube vids showing different OS systems booting. Most boot into Windows 7 in just 12 to 15 seconds.

With a fresh install of Windows 7, will loose all of the "fluff" add-ons that come from the factory. I think the sellers make more sales by offering trial software with the system. I have yet to use any of the trial software as it is not the products I choose to use.

It's still early for the US Mail delivery so I will just wait and bug the wife with "is it here yet,is it here yet," kind of stuff. Ha Ha

Keeping my fingers crossed,

Installed the SSD today. What a difference. I did some tweaks and the notebook boots to Windows 7 in 16 seconds.

I'm impressed

16 seconds? Thats a very fast boot. Is that measured from as soon as you push the power button to the desktop? I measured my Windows 7 boot time, I changed it so it would login automagicly, and I started the timer as soon as I pushed the power button and stopped it as soon as the desktop showed up. I got 39 seconds. My laptop is just a stock walmart computer, 2 gigs of RAM.

I load a bunch of bloatware when I boot. I have read that some others have stripped down versions boot in 7 - 11 seconds. The SSD is as fast as older ran was. That is still screamin' for non volatile storage.
