I drove my new (to me) astro van up the mountain to go snowboarding (100 miles) with no problem. On the way home about 75 miles into the drive while going up a hill with no real hesitation my CEL came on (P0101). It stayed on until I got home. It's not on now but I've not gone through DEQ yet and I'm not sure it will pass sense the CEL came on.

The previous owner installed a generic looking aftermarket air intake with a K&N style filter. I took it off and cleaned the MAF sensor and reinstalled the stock air intake box.

My question is will it pass DEQ and should I worry about doing additional troubleshooting to correct it from happening again?

Your absolutely correct spongebob218 I edited this post.

Clearing the codes by a scan tool won't reset the whole computer. Taking the negative ground off for a couple of minutes will and the computer will have to complete a full drive cycle to re-establish the settings for the EVAP, before going into the inspection station. Good call.:)

Hi FXRseen

spongebob218 brought up a very good point. I would leave things as they are and just go for the inspection. Please keep us updated,Thanks.:)

What is DEQ? Where are you from? I am assuming it is a state emissions test on your vehicle. If it is similar to Pennsylvainia's emissions program, a 2003 vehicle should get a plug in test to the DLC to check MIL status and monitor(Evap, Cat., O2 sensors, etc) readiness. If the check engine light is OFF, and all of the monitors have run and have passed, it should pass the test, even if there are history codes stored in the PCM. If they do this type of test, DO NOT CLEAR THE CODES, it will reset the monitors to "not ready" and thus fail the test. This info is for PA, but if I knew what state you were in, I could try and find out some info for you.

Well after replacing the original air box, new filter, and cleaning the MAF I went back up the mountain for more snowboarding fun. The CEL didn't come back on the entire trip. So I'm guessing it worked. I'm going to take it to emissions and I'm sure it will pass. Thanks for you info.

I agree with you guys that I shouldn't reset the computer if I want to take it in right away.

Hopefully this info is useful to some. I'm sure this wont help people that have the CEL on every time they drive as mine was just a intermittent problem.
