i need to change the lower intake manifold gasket in my '99 cargo van due to a coolant leak.
i will be upgrading the fuel injection spider while i have everything apart.
i am also in the process of upgrading my original "black box" type PCM to a 2002 safari "0411" type.
when i take off the intake manifold to change the gasket i would like to swap the original 1999 intake manifold for a 2003 JY intake manifold that i have - the later manifold completely does away with the original 1999 EGR setup.
my concern is the change in NOx emissions when i take the van in for the state emissions test.....will i have enough wiggle room on the GPM limit with the EGR completely gone???
here's my van's last 3 E-test results :

any thoughts on the matter would be greatly appreciated....

the test station aisles/bays have full length windows so you can watch the process. they've never opened the hood on any test i've had. they just look at the gas cap, drive onto the rollers, clip on the tailpipe sniffer, plug in to the OBD port & off they go......
as far as i can tell from watching the process, if you don't have any trouble codes showing and sniff within bounds, all is well.

i have a 95 v6 safari and my smog check is due in may, the van runs fine except it shakes a lot when in gear. i've already replaced the 3 mounts but still shaking, so when it comes to the exhaust, the muffler just got loose from the exhaust pipe and idk but i think the cat is the original one and i might need to replace it as well. so i would it be a good idea to get the hole thing off ebay and replace it (exhaust pipes, cat and muffler) before going to get the smog check?
thanks.

Save your money, get it smogged and let them tell you. '95 is OBD1 so it's all on the sniffer and visual, no computer. If the cat is there and the exhaust is coming out the rear where it is supposed to you should be ok unless your in cali where all bets are off.
Here in CT I just got my new to me '05 done in August. It has a 6.0 with cat delete programming, instant fail in CT. the entire length from manifold to tail is crusty rust and broken, rear axle back rusted off. I put 36" straight pipe in the back to get it aft of the bumper, cut in 2 gutted cats I have in the appropriate locations and had it tested. Buggered snot welds and leaks it passed because the cats were there and the computer was happy. I have other priorities to tend to so this bought me time, Today I'm beginning the new build I've had time to collect parts for to build what I want on my time.
