realityguy, good write up. Sounds about how I replaced it on my 01, previous owner had replaced it once, and reinstalled with tiny machine screws, trying to remove the tiny nuts off the back off them I wondered what the heck was he thinking installing the window motor in such a way. When I installed the new motor I just riveted it on like the factory had done the originals, so much easier than fiddling with a machine screw in there, if it needs to be done again I'll drill out the rivet, but I dont need to worry about the nuts coming loose this way

Ok I think I get what you're asking. There is a window motor and a window regulator, you can buy either separate or you can buy them already attached to each other. If you only need one or the other you only have to buy one or the other, or you can buy both pre connected to each other.

These are not two different types of setups, if you bought just the motor and swapped it, the assembly would still be exactly the same thing as you are getting with them as a unit.

The motor bolts or rivets to the regulator and they fit inside of the door between the inner and outer sheet metal. It should be pretty obvious how to do it when you pull it apart. I only changed my motor, I have changed regulators before but not on this van, but it won't be too complex.

I have my door panels off right now and can snap a pic or two tomorrow if you like

Seller probably doesn't know anything about parts.

Go over to rock auto and scroll through the listings to see what options they have too, it's good cuz you can compare all the prices and specs.

But ya, buy the motor, buy the regular, bolt the two together and you have you "combo unit"

it's the same thing not something different.

The dorman video had me sold on their unit, but of course there video is their sales pitch but sounded like the put the quality into their window regulators/motors

Here's a pic of the passenger side window motor attached to the regulator inside the door (ignore the orange weed eater cord, I'm pulling some wires)

“But ya, buy the motor, buy the regular, bolt the two together and you have you "combo unit”.
But half the inspiration for this combo unit here is to save money, and the combo’s cheaper.

I think you missed my point, as far as I can understand this whole post is about weather buying the two parts preassembled as "the combo unit" as you call it is somehow some completely different part. What I was telling you is if you buy the two parts and bolt them together it will be the same thing as your "combo unit"

I don't care how you buy it, that's not what I was telling you, as long as you buy the one that is for safari/astro it is the same thing.

On rock auto the dorman unit motor/regulator looks to be ten dollars more than buying the motor and buying the regulator then bolting them together yourself. Again where and how you purchase it is your business, I just letting you know it's the same parts.
