Re-Introduction Of An Old Member...

Hi all... Long time no see. It's been quite awhile.

Some may remember my plan to treat my '98 AWD to a take-out setup with 111k from a 2001 Bravada. It started knocking about 15k miles later. Something was rotten in Denmark, mechanic took about a month longer than he said it would, and the oil pressure didn't seem quite right when I got it back. Side note: went out of his way to show me how well his '97 K1500 (also with 4.3L / 4L60E / 4WD) ran.

Before my '98 was hauled off to the scrapyard, I discovered the trans date was 8-97 (van production date), and the engine block serial #, W1N10THS, did not jive with a standard '98 serial number, nor did it jive with the 2001 Bravada my take-out came from.

Obviously, this jackass slapped an oil pump in my existing engine and put my take-out engine/trans in their own truck, though I'm not sure I can ever prove it. Of course, the friend that referred me to them continues to use them.

Obviously I had to give up on the van and the taxi business (thanks Uber / Lyft), and drove trucks over-the-road until 2017, when I was given doctor's orders to give it up, though they had no name for why. Finally found out this year I have Irritable Larynx Syndrome, which makes the world a gas chamber to me, and to boot, I found out last year I am autistic. And some of those traits have gotten worse since having COVID last year.

At this point, awaiting approval for disability, but I just want my life back. But, as Lennon said, life is what happens while you make other plans.

Any of my old cohorts still hanging around here?

Actually, I'm in Virginia. @JuneauCabbie is in Alaska. The rest is correct. :)
I'm dismayed to find that a few of my cohorts have been banned. WTH happened?
Only banning I recall was Lumpy for posting a naked female photo.

Sorry, I thought all the Book Writers were from Alaska. LOL
I suppose Virginia can be Boring as well...

...and as far as Breathing - I am the "Emphysema Poster Adult".

Are you still allergic to air? I'm still at the end of 64.

Nice to see you back.

And VA can be as boring as you make it.

Interesting you mention that. Yes, and if anything, it's gotten worse. Jan 2023, I was formally diagnosed with Irritable Larynx Syndrome / Paradoxical Vocal Fold Motion / Inducible Laryngeal Obstruction / Vocal Cord Dysfunction (of the several names for it), and strong indications of eosinophilic asthma, which does not respond to bronchiodilators.

Basically the larynx closes up in response to exertion and certain irritants, and caffeine tends to aggravate it (hence I've had to give up my sweet tea, which has greatly alleviated the persistent cough I had). Specialist told me all they can do is make me more comfortable at home. No cure, no meds, no surgery.

I collapsed two minutes into a stress test a couple weeks ago. Really put into perspective just how close to the edge I was driving trucks, because I should never have been out there. Diesel exhaust and cigarette smoke exposure around truck stops, shippers, receivers, and then jump-starting myself with a couple Java Monsters every morning was combining to keep me hacking up a lung 8-12 hours a day.

In 2017, I had a coughing fit so bad I nearly passed out with the cruise set for 65 at 3 am in the middle of nowhere. Took leave, got checked out, doctors didn't have a name for it then, but said I should avoid outdoors, exertion and that I should give up trucking. They didn't, however, mention my high eosinophil count, which explains my allergies and lack of response to asthma medications.

All this and autism too...

I'm sorry to read it, losing our health is horrible. I was out for 6 months a while back, Crohn's disease gave me a really hard time for a while. I'm just glad to see you're still here, and nothing lethal happened while behind the wheel.

Crohn's is some evil stuff. I have severe GERD, so I feel your pain.

Even though nothing terrible happened, probably came close a couple times... Just glad it didn't incapacitate me and make me take out a vanful of kids or something. It's definitely been an interesting ride, and I did save a few lives while I was out there, though I saw some things I wish I hadn't also, like a burned-up rig buried in a bridge abutment with the steer axle under the sleeper.

Ratted out a couple of very drunk four-wheelers who would have killed someone otherwise...

Came across a lady with three kids in a disabled SUV that was stuck in a blind curve in nighttime interstate traffic, got them to get out so I could try to get it onto the shoulder. Two other rigs almost clipped it an 1/8-mile ahead of me, and another one damned near hit me when I was trying to get the disabled vehicle off the road.

Ran across another lady who'd run out of gas in the hammer lane in a 75 mph zone, used my rig's lights and my warning triangles to warn people. Trooper that showed up chewed my *** until he realized I wasn't the one broken down. No good deed, as they say...

Finished round two of a psychological exam for disability today, and it wasn't pretty. I've come to accept that I have issues, but it's quite disheartening to see just how little it takes to make me struggle in terms of memory and focus. I felt like it had worsened since having COVID last year, but it was so frustrating, and to tell the truth, I was guessing at half of it, because I was struggling to remember what had been told me on some portions.

Nothing quite like being unable to remember a few words that were said to you or a string of numbers to make you feel useless.

Yep, I'm still here, glad to hear you are too. Keep kicking, even if only ankle high. From what I hear it beats the alternative.

Hiya...

Right now, I'd beg to differ. I've been sensitive to certain light for awhile now (have to keep light to a minimum indoors and can't leave the house in daylight without sunglasses)...

Had round two of cognitive testing for disability yesterday. Seems like the fluorescent lights in the doctor's office combined with no blockage of outside light whatsoever may have caused sensory overload, had a headache since about an hour after that won't go away, nausea came on last night.

I had similar the first go-round last week, and I wasn't right for about 4-5 days... FML.

Ankle-high is about right, though some days, I'd debate that too. :p
Ratting out 4 wheelers? That wasn't ratting out, that was protecting the public- and them. Thank you.

I had a small taste of light sensitivity, until recently LED lights would make my eyes hurt. I can't imagine what it's like being sensitive to flourescent and sunlight too.

I know what you mean about the memory and focus. For most of my adult life I could read a paragraph, get to the end, and have no idea what I just read. My Dr was able to help with that.

Good to see you back.
