If you have rear A/C on a 2004 or similar, check the strap that secures the return refrigerant line from the rear A/C that attaches to the driver's side of the engine in the area directly above the engine oil filter. The strap breaks and allows the metal tube to rub against the side of the engine/transmission resulting in a leak which requires the replacement of this very expensive item, lots of labor, and evacuation and replacement of refrigerant. Research on this forum and others indicates this is likely a common problem. We have 111,000 miles on our 2004.

Question: Since I will be replacing the accumulator also, any guesses as to how much refrigerant oil might be needed to make up for the loss due to the leak and accumulator?

The air doesn't work in my '95, but I'll be taking a look at it one of these days. Thanks for the heads up & welcome aboard!

I have 96 astro rwd @ 110k miles no a/c. (bolt to anchor hose/pipe missing, hole worn in pipe) dealer replaced hose evac. and recharged system $987.00. 4 years and 40k miles same problem. Dealer would not honor lifetime warranty on hose. Said it wasn't their fault. Even though ALL :screaming: service was done at their dealership.

Look at the paperwork of your warranty and see what exactly is covered and how ,

Take van to 2 other shops for estimate and cause of problem.

You might have a case to take the stealership to court and recover your cost
