When I installed my stereo in my 2003 cargo van I soldered into what I supposed was the rear speaker wires. These were the wires that were in the factory harness for the stock radio. Since I have a cargo van there are no rear speakers, but I assumed the corresponding wires were in the harness. They are supposed to be purple and light purple, and brown and light brown. I have no idea where the factory speakers are supposed to be so don't really know where to look. I have looked at the harness that goes thru the roof and saw there was another harness on the driver side that goes to the floor under some molding. I am hoping some of you experts can point me in the right direction.

I found my speaker wires running in the harness into the back doors where the factory speakers would be mounted. I pulled them out of the doors (thru the loom) and hooked them to 2 speaker boxes that hold a 6x9 in each. Worked great.

Finally figured all of this out! I did originally solder the wires to the correct wires according to the above post^. The wires were not in the harness at all. I eventually found a connector under the mat, driver side, that contained the wires coming from the radio. So, now I have taped into the wires and have run speaker wires to the back. All is well again :)

Thank you for sharing - works for 2004 Astro as well.

Cheers!

I realize this is an old thread, but wanted to provide a picture of the connector for the rear speakers and it's location near the emergency brake area. This is on my 03 Cargo.

The second pic shows where I spliced.

Hope this helps someone in the future. Cheers!

Unreal! stoked to have found this. I have a 2001 GMC Safari AWD Cargo and am looking to get some speakers in the back. Thanks for posting this.

HotBananas;
Also be aware there was an amplifier for the rear speakers ( not sure just what all models had this. It might have been part of the upgrade stereo package). That amp was located just to the rear of the fuel filler pipe ( driver side) behind the lower interior trim panel. (cargos may not have even had that trim)
