Well, my Monday is starting out great. Walk out to the van to go to work, notice a bunch of glass on the curb. Yup, big gaping hole in my window. Peek in, wires where a radio once was. Great, just great. Yeah, I didn't want to go into work anyways this morning. So I got it vacuumed out, and am headed to get some replacement glass. Just wondering if there are any hints as to putting it back on the track? I already have the door apart, and I have replaced window glass before, just not on an Astro. Just seeing if there are any little tricks to get it on the rollers and in the track fairly easily. I'll check back in after I get my glass and see if anyone is awake this morning.

Thanks, Andrew

No real tricks, but it is a pain in the backside...
You'll have to remove the channel weatherstrip, which means removing the mirror.
If I remember correctly, you may have to remove the rivets for the regulator to position the rollers in. You will have to power the regulator up or down slightly to get them in place.
And your hands are gonna get real greasy...and the glass as well. Clean the glass well before putting the door panel back on.
Be prepared to curse and swear.

Well, I didn't take any pics, cause I needed to get it done and get to work, but this is what I did:

First, I removed all the remaining glass that was still in the track that I could get. I removed the inner door panel, and removed the outer window wiper/weatherstrip from the door. I loosened the mirror so I could pull the channel weatherstrip all the way out. I then finished removing the glass fragments from the weatherstrip. I also removed the metal track that is inside the door near the hinge (one bolt). I vacuumed all the broken glass out while it was apart, and I did enjoy the fact that the inside of the door was rust free. I inserted the glass from the outside with the front part going in first, the window at a 45* angle. I powered the window almost all the way down and inserted the front wheel into the track while the window was at an angle. I then put the glass level and powered the window up slightly so the rear track wheel was almost at the end of the track. I moved the glass as close to the hinge, out of the rear channel weatherstrip, and I could just get the rear wheel into the track. I then powered the window down so I could get the front of the glass back into the rubber channel weatherstrip, powered it all the way up, then replaced the metal channel piece back into the door. Replaced all the door panels, making sure that all the linkages were still working (locks, handle, etc).

What a way to spend a Monday morning. I'm out $52.80 for the glass, and I have a hole where a radio was. I think my van is not liked. First it's hit, now it's broken into.

At least they didn't take it.

They probably figured that the radio was worth more than the van. :D

But in all seriousness, it sucks when deadbeats make life harder for those of us who work for a living. I already told a few congressmen that stealing from a working man and messing with the tools that he needs to make his money should be criminalized separately. I also told them that this should be a case where cruel and unusual punishment is acceptable.

Sorry to hear that Andrew! Friggin' deadbeats!

You might be able to find a nice used CD player on craigslist for cheap. :(

Man, I could not agree more with ted anderson, messing with a mans tools is bad. Be thankful you were able to fix the window yourself, otherwise your would be one of those people with trash bags taped over the window hole.

Then they should've taken the gas too!

Well, I had typed a rant, but then the computer lost it, and I don't feel like typing it again. Use your own thougths as to what I said:

There, I feel better now.

I did all the same things you did except for taking the mirror completely off.And I fought and fought to get the angle to get the rollers in the channel and couldn't get it to go.Just by accident one of the rollers came off.I then realized the rollers do pop off leaving just the stud.Sure makes it a breeze then.Just got to be careful putting them back on.Well really taking them off first. So you position the studs in the channel, move a roller already in the channel to where the stud is,angle pillars to pop the roller on the stud, and after a hour and a haft of a fight,I was done in five minutes.Just a FYI.

I had the same problem, went out to my van on New Years day only to find the drivers door window smashed & various items missing, fridge, jump starter etc, located a second-hand window on Ebay, (not easy to get a new one in the UK) just been delivered so will have to fit it over the weekend, shame there's no vids on YouTube to help, information given on here will be helpful though.

Thanks Andrew, I'm not particularly worried about the stuff being stolen, the fridge wasnt working too well & the jump starter batteries needed replacing. It's the bloody damage they do & the mess left behind, broken glass etc (it gets everywhere) that depresses me, perhaps it would have been better had I just left the door unlocked.
Oh well just have to get on with it.
