The compression tester I have as a fitting with a rubber hose attached to it. It is a pain to get it in there on these vans but it will fit. I have done compression tests on stock astro/safari vans, not just mine which is far easier since I have headers. We did use a lift to make it easier also, it was a lot better from under the van.

Ok , i'll try from under the van , on my old g30 van i had headers and it really was'nt too bad just using the compression testers hose like you said , now i have my 2002 Astro and my 1996 express van and both have a little tighter access , i think a big part of the differance in access to the plugs is headers and also on the stock manifolds have them aluminum heat sheilds that go around 2 spark plugs , even if i were to get headers and remove those heatshields i suspect they designed the newer vans with less area to get access to the plugs
