This topic may have been discussed, but I'm not sure. I couldn't find it.

I don't want a pretty wheel, just a functional one for a full size spare. Yesterday I was about 4 miles on a dirt road when the tire went flat. I don't know where the puncture occured but it made me worried about getting stranded.

Since the puncture was at an angle, my plug kit wouldn't work, and I put on the space saver tire. It did the job getting me to a station where they patched the tire. I don't want to be in that position again. I want a full size spare from now on.

So I want a basic steel rim to mount a full size tire on. What size do I need?

Thanks in advance.

Hi mrossp

What size rims do you have on now. I believe GM changed the rim size to 16" a couple of years earlier from your year. All the information you need will be on the tire for tire size and a rim size "stamp" on the rim somewhere which you can read to see what you have on it. Please keep us updated, thanks.

I wanted the very thing for my '97 Safari because I was in the same situation. They were getting ready to junk a full-size Chevy van, I think it was a '99 or 2000 at my old job.I decided to pirate the full size spare. It was 15" same as on the Safari and it fit like a glove.I recently bought 4 new tires for the van to get it ready for winter,so I had the best of the old tires mounted on this rim.Just remember when putting the spare back under the van that you put the side with the valve stem facing UP.You don't have to do this, but it minimises the chance for dirt or crud to get on the face of the rim.Keep searching the boneyards; this should be an easy find.
