Drove 19 hours last night, and only made it to Flagstaff! Sat for 3 hours on I5, had several stops trying to fix viewtopic.php?f=76&t=73961

Then, to top it off I hit Buggs Bunny!

Ok, it was almost 4am, but I am not crazy... It was white, and mostly walking on its hind legs! I think it even has a carrot in its mouth like a cigar...

Well, sorry kids... I think Elmer Fyudd would have been proud... There was blood fur and rabbit guts all over the bottom of my van.... Remember I am spending lots of quality time every time I stop getting under there to mess with O2 sensors and harness.... :screaming: Yuck!!!!!

He hit so hard he bucked the bumper, mand broke the strut that keeps the bumper cover from flapping in the breeze.

Still have not found the short, gonna pull the dog house off again this evening when I stop.... Hope to make TX on I40....

Ok, I am broken down on the side of the road.

Checked wires again, 200 miles back.

After I moved the harness around, was able to put a fuse in and no CEL!

5 miles later, got a CEL but no change in running. I suspect it is a 420 code.

Drive 200 miles, running great.

Just a few minutes ago, I crest a hill and she bucks like the TC lock up issue it has when the fuse blows....

Then the gas peddle won't make her go.

Put in neutral, engine revs. Put in gear, Boggs under throttle.

Slow all the way to 5mph. Can keep her moving if I feather the throttle, but won't rev over idle in gear.

When feathering throttle, will pop back through intake like it is lean...

Climb the shoulder, drive 1.5 miles up hill with hazards on.

Turn off first parking lot. Shut down, open hood.. No smoke noting obvious.

Pull codes. 7 codes....

420 (down stream 02)
131 (O2 sensor low voltage)
101 MAF sensor low voltage
101
131
420
And 300. (Misfire, likely set when nursing it up the hill)

Lump,

You can't find it because it is in NM. I was so road weary I forgot what state I was in.

Went through the wire harness till 2am, re wrapped each segment... Not running right, but about to get back in the highway now....

Yankee ingenuity ? Limp mode ? Or... ? (now there's a thought)

Uncle Bob

Me thinks most of us'ns are laughing with youse vs at youse. We have all been

in a spot that was like being twixt a rock and a hard place ourselves, one time or

another. Makes for great around-the-campfire stories to tell the grandkids.

Thanks guys,

Made it one exit, and the problem came back. What I am thinking is that since I did not find any breaks in any wires, I have a bad spot on the "pink" power wire that was originally grounding and blowing fuses, and now I have managed to get it to break so the MAF circuit is getting a low flow reading and leaning the mixture.

My plan is to go over the harness under the van I had previously wrapped and then try to jumper power in with and inline fuse to the MAF (on a switched circuit of course)...

Wish me luck!

Oh, current codes are now;

154
102
340
102
154
300
340

Ok,

Found a cracked connector on the bank 2, sensor 1 (passengers side, closest to engine). Put the pins back in manually, and she ran great.

So I drove 46 miles with the dog house open...

Cresting a hill, CEL lights up and the power goes away again. Now I have

151
101

I am having a hell of a tour of exits in NM! Thinking about making a tour guide.

Ok, first this is the strangest problem I have delt with in some time.,.,

So, I can now clear the codes and it will drive fine. Then about 3o miles later the CEl comes on, and it looses all power suddenly and barely runs.

Nothing is jumpered, and the code comes up by time / distance not because of a bump.

So.... My latest theory is that somehow it is driving fine in "learn mode" but once it applies the data it gets and starts driving on the learned data it goes wonky....

I have a new MAF. I may have gotten contamination on it when I was using WD 40 to clean and instpect wires under the hood???. But not likely, I can not figure this one out at all....

Wish I had a live stream code reader, would like to know what the numbers are.

Will it run with MAF disconnected all together? Should ignore it and use some default values if it thinks its not there.
Thanks for the suggestion, I will try that next.... Maybe it won't mess up with it unplugged.

I can run with the fuse pulled, but the TC locks and unlocks whenever I go up or down a hill.... It makes a terrible banging sound without the fuse installed (but works perfectly for 30 min) if I clear the codes and put the fuse in.

I still have a lot of miles to go on this trip, I would hate to destroy my transmission in the midst of it.

Excellent suggestion, not sure why I had not thought ought to do this.... I ran this way when the problem started,

Mpg is pretty bad, 16.2mpg but I can live with it.... Better then messing up the transmission or pulling over every 29 minutes to clear the codes!

I am in Memphis Tx now... Only about 1,500 more miles on this leg of the trip.

Thanks!

Done.
Thank you great and powerful Wizzard!

Do you have a magic button on your moderator control panel you could press to fix this electrical problem?

Or better yet, just move my van and I to FL? :driving:
