Hi all!

I recently bought a 1996 GMC Safari AWD to build out and live in.

I'm currently working on setting up the solar and electrical system. My two solar panels are 49"x36", leaving just enough space between them for my Fan Tastic Fan.

The van came with the stock roof rack. I am hoping to find more cross bars for this rack so that I can attach each panel to two bars.
They are the kind that slide in the side bars from the tail end.

I am checking the nearby pick n pull today

Some alternatives:
-attach mounts onto the existing side rails for thule square bars that I already have
-ditch this rack and start with something new. ie build a custom set up with aluminum

Let me know if you have the bars or any thoughts on these plans/potentials!

Thanks!

Lauren and Manda

I hear you. I have a second set of stock bars from a previous van. I think a pick and pull would be your best bet.

Now that I’ve got them, does anyone have experience adding bars to their rack? It seems like I may have to remove the mounts to slide the bars in, which seems like a pain

You'll need to remove either the front or rear brackets to allow the crossbars to slide in/out.
