Doh...

That's what I get for posting a reply to the last post on page 1... not realizing that there were 2 pages. Sorry, that post wasn't directed at you. But the info is out there in case anyone else needs it.

Yeah I chased that squeak for 3000 miles all over Hell's Half-acres, PI$$ED ME THE F OFF! Did all the same things you are doing, nothing worked.
Turns out TnB found it in about 5 seconds... I pulled the PS pulley on too far and it was out of alignment. Make sure your pulleys are all lined up straight.

Since this only one that it adjustable, its worth checking out. the flat part of the flange of the pulley should be flush with the snout of the PS pump shaft

Easy to mess up if you don't know what you are looking for

The other day I accidentally overfilled the brake fluid reservoir and got brake fluid on the belt. No squeaks before this happened, now there is a high pitched squeal that is intermittent, and I feel like a moron. I guess it's time for a new belt...

Clean the top pulley with a wire brush on a drill. With the engine off of course, just bump it over till you get it all.

Yeah, as it is drying out you will get that squeak. make sure you clean up your pulleys really good with brake clean before slapping a new belt on them or we will see you back here in another week.

After changing the idler, AC bi pass and finally the tensioner, the belt still squeaked...until a day later when it didn't ! I was told that the belt finally settled into the grooves? I never got around to cleaning the remaining pulleys.

I did my 02 with ac based on this thread.
Except :
1. I only took off the air intake.
2. During install I only skipped the tensioner not the smooth pulley like the OP.
This worked out but I had forgotten the OP's advice.
3. For the pesky part at the end: I pulled the tensioner down from below, by hand.
Which blew away fighting it from the top.
Seems the best way if working by yourself.

 And just when you think your belt has "had the biscuit", Matt shows us how to fix it!
I wonder what happens if I use Daffy's brand? Will my belt get all Looney Tunes on me?

This is a good thread. I bought a wire wheel not very long ago for very abrasive jobs like cleaning.
I'm probably going to clean my pulleys at some point when it is convenient.
Probably when I do the Big 3 upgrade and possibly try to remove the cooler lines from the radiator entirely (did a cooler delete).

I just replaced the tensioner and belt on my 2000 AWD Astro w/AC. The old Gates tensioner was shaking back and forth so I replaced that with one by AC Delco.
The belt was also AC Delco 6K956 but was a bitch to get on. I had the tensioner maxed out and finally got it under the idler pulley. The tensioner barely retracts at all and the belt is only a half inch from the spring mechanism. This belt seems too short to me. It comes almost straight down from the alternator. The van started up and it's quiet now but I'm still concerned. Has anyone had a similar experience with this belt?

Hello

I have a 94 Safari AWD.
I was wondering if I can reroute the Serp belt to remove the AC pump? Lines broke years ago.
Something is making noise. I know I would nee a shorter belt. How long?
Or is there a bypass pulley?

:?
There is a pulley available and a threaded hole on the engine to mount it in. The shorter belt is also available.
