I really want to mount a tire carrier on my rear driver's side barn door.
Does anyone have a spare tire carrier mounted to their rear barn door? Any Pics?
Anyone know which ones might work? Universal one or one off a Jeep or S10 Blazer?
Will the rear barn door support a tire carrier?

If this is a bad idea let me know........

You can find several different types all over, especially junk yards. Please just make sure if you do it, that you don't just attach it to the skin of the door but something a little more sturdy. I have seen some pics of this install done wrong and it messes up the door pretty bad.

Is there a frame inside the door to support a tire mount?

I will have to hit up the junkyard.

No, there is no frame. On larger chevy vans, one end of the carrier attaches to the door hinges and the other attaches to the end of the door right next to the fold.

Grumpy will be getting a door mount carrier with reinforcements in the inside of the door. Pretty sure 31" tires don't fit underneath, plus I don't want it there when I go wheeling.

Do you currently have a lift on Grumpy? I would like to lift mine and throw some big tires on her, but she just isn't clean enough for that.

No lift on Grumpy yet, but I had 2" lift spacers donated that I'll be putting in. I'm thinking Stone Tire or Tread Wright 31" retreads and some sheet metal trimming.

DAM I need someone to donate some parts to me!

I have been reconsidering doing the tire carrier as I want to purchase a bike rack for my hitch and don't want the spare tire interferring with being able to haul the bikes.

Anyone ever try to fit a fullsize spare under the Van where the stock donut is?

Full size tires will fit under the extended vans. It's all I use.

Fitted this a couple of weeks back.....you'll definately need to strenghten behind whatever mount you use..mine was from a Landrover Discovery and i made some brackets to mount to the door inners....you can push on the wheel without any deflection on the outer skin...

It's the bottom half of the "HIDDEN HITCH" label. I guess it's not completely hidden!
