Spark plug thread question

222 Views 10 Replies 6 Participants Last post by  gwd
I am attempting the daunting task of replacing my plugs (pray for me). However I noticed the NGK plugs I ordered have a longer thread than the old ones I'm taking out. I checked the fit on Amazon before ordering and they said it will fit my 94. They seem to seat the same with I screw in the new one.

Does this matter and is it going to affect anything?

DON'T USE THEM!!!
Take the old plug to a LAPS and buy the right ones.

Edit- Amazon is f'ed up!
for shitzngiggles I went to see what they suggested for my '93. They had a mixed bag when I confirmed I had the 4.3 instead of my 350. I didn't check the numbers but the had the proper style mixed with that "fine wire" deep thread w/ washer as well.

You see the angled shoulder above the thread on your old plug? That is what seats the plug in the block for our older astro, if you ran that new plug in and tried it it would not surprise me if there were contact with the piston when it came up.

Those are too long.
The pistons are going to hit them.
Then new engine time.

Looks like Amazon owes me my money back then. Not the first time this has happened with them but I'm living in a place where I don't have many options. Bummer.

Not a total loss though. Managed to change our my leaky oil pressure switch. I'll call it a W.

When I buy a part off Amazon (which is quite often), I bounce the part # off the Rock Auto catalog. They probably have the best catalog configuration I could ask for.
No Canadian Tire near you?
Order the AC Delco ones from Amazon
Look at RockAuto for the suitable model numbers.
Pre 96 you had the short reach plugs ACDelco CR43TS
96 and later (Vortec) you had the long reach plugs ACDelco R44LTS6

Never trust the Amazon fitment.

Always double check, one of the best ways is to simply look at the owners manual. Use that for a cross reference with whatever brand of plugs you want to buy.

There's a CT in the nearest town but its an hour down a mountain and due to my current braking situation I'm trying not to go down that often. Hopefully next time i go to town I'll be able to get the brakes done and grab the right parts from a NAPA while im at it
Test out your hand or should I say left foot brake before you go down the hill as they are the only thing that will stop your van if your hydraulic or front brakes fail, other than a tree.🌲🌳
