Anyone know how to recalibrate the ECM to remove the top speed limiter on a '05 Astro RWD 4.3L Vortec? Pretty stupid that it tops out at 101 MPH.

Can't see paying $350 for one of those small recal modules, for a one time reset.

Does kinda suck to lose the zoom line when you can't keep up anymore. Plus the governor kicking in wakes up my wife and she gives me crap for going that fast. Life was fun when gas was cheap. I rarely get over 70 mph now.

Hey lay off the canadain bashing. I never told you how to drive or not drive. Just stating my opinion. BTW if you are too cheap to buy the tuner I might suspect that You might also cheap out and not buy speed rated tires that can safely handle those speeds. Would really not want you to get hurt or worse yet someboby else.

If I wasn't so darn "married with children", I'd "giver a go" I remember the first time I drove over 100MPH. It was in a 1968 AMC Rambler Rebel. Car was so floaty that the front end was 6 feet off the ground. Thrilling but stupid. But that is the fun of being alive. The last time I drove that fast was Atlanta to Savannah when my boy was born in a Monte Carlo SS. (never dropped below 100 the whole way)

I've hit 110mph in a newer Chevy GTO, a Mazda Miata and a motorcycle. :layrubber: :swerve:

I just can't imagine taking my Astro up to that speed. Of course in its current condition and tires, 70 is about all I dare. She'll need more work on her to trust her to anything more.

My Saab 95 is limited to 100 too. :crying-yellow:

Please don't be stupid. He didn't ask for your opinion on if a mini van should go that fast. If you're going to criticize him, you might as well criticize me too. I have driven my van well over 100 mph.

That being said, toddb raises a good point. If you don't take the time to do it right, you might as well not do it at all.

My '05 is in perfect condition, cold air intake, clutch fan replaced with electric, wide "T" tires w/wheels. I can pretty well surprise a 4.7 V8 Jeep, til I hit 101 MPH, then he pulls away. Does he not have a limiter? I only know it is aggravating. It seems there are some with limiters due to a silly protection against law suites. I do not drive any distance over the speed limits, but it's fun to do short spurts to max capabilities. These vans run very stable at over 100, if you know what you are doing.

I used to race sports cars regularly over 100 MPH, but of course in a closed environment. I lived 21 years in Europe and have driven all manner of auto's regularly at 120 +, sometimes getting passed by Porches and the like.

I will have this limiter removed, one way or another.

Ok, them you are going to have to spend the money on the programmer to get it done. Maybe you can find a used one? Maybe if you buy it, then you can resell it? Unfortunately, it sounds like you will have to spend some money on it.
