i need help identfin what tranny i have....how do i do that is there a chart some where? also just in case, how much power does the 87 motor make 4.3L tranny is also out of an 87astro

The trans is a 700r4 4 speed automatic with overdrive. Unless of course you have a manual trans, which would be a T5.
A stock 4.3 probably makes around 140 to 160 hp.

gt is the man. no question about that sir. the 700r was renamed the 4L60 in 1990. the name was changed only. the 4L60E which is the electronic version came out in 93.

It's difficult to check for codes.
If you check the trans , beside the dipstick tube, there is a cable that runs up to the throttle body. This is called the TV cable.(throttle valve). This will identify it as a 700.
The 4L60E's replaced this cable with a pressure control solenoid(all electronic).

Of course, if you have 3 pedals (gas, brake and clutch) it is a T5.
