It tells the position of your gear lever for many reasons that affects bot the engine and transmission, and yes it affect the idle speed control, as when you shift in D or R it tells the engine to boost idle to compensate for the additional load coming to the engine.

I talked to the guy at fuel injection connection and he said on the 1993 , 94 ,95 models this switch is'nt needed to drive the car and also without it everything will work normal (gear shifting and idle etc.)

Having a '95 as well, I'd like to know this too. As I understand it, even the early '95's are OBD 1.5, which is OBD 1, plus trans. control. Correct me if I'm mistaken. I do know there's no kickdown cable on mine, and no CKPS, and has the old style aldl.I'd think it was all computer controlled, there's only a harness connecting the trans. to the rest of the system.

I dont think the 93 -95 4L60E trucks even have this switch on the transmission ?
All 4L60E trans have this switch. If it doesn't, then it's a 4L60(700R4) with no "E".

You know, I suppose you could unplug it and see what happens. Its not like your van would explode or something.

Somewhere on here is a thread talking about this. There was mention of the valve body in the 95 being different than the 96 and they would need to be changed, along with other parts. I'll try and locate it.

The 95 Valve Body has a different 3-2 Downshift valve line up, 3-2 Downshift Solenoid, and Seperator Plate, compared to the 96-UP. The last three on the VB casting is 393 (93-95), and for 96 97 98 it is 537 and some others, Best way is to interchange the 96 to work for a 95 would be, Use the 95 Valve body, harness, Seperator plate, 3-2 Solenoid, on the 96 Transmisson, or vise versa. I always reccomend new accumulator pistions, sonnax TCC Regulator Valve, and TransGO Seperator Plates, since the one checkball wears the plate badly after about 100 K or so. They have 3 types available to replace all 4L60E plates, 93-94, 95, 96-UP. Hope that helps,

Brett
