I have a 1998 Chevy astro 4.3 that today started having problems with the turn signals, mainly that when you hit the column switch to turn on the left or right turn signal nothing happens, yet when you hit the hazard lights they work and blink just fine. Should I look at the switch itself in the column or is there a seperate relay for the flasher in hazard mode and normal left / right usage? It is my father's van so I haven't been able to take a look at yet but I thought I would get a head start and see if anyone else has any ideas, thanks!

the relay is the same for hazards and signals, its probably the contact board inside the switch which has malfunctioned, the hazard button uses a totally different set of contacts, i figured this all out bout 3 weeks ago when my indicator would not stop clicking unless you hit the brakes, the contact pad was all worn out. just to let ya know to replace the column switch you must remove the airbag, steering wheel, and compression ring assembly to get to the screws to remove the switch, just a heads up.

Well, I took a closer look at things last night and found that fuse number 16 under the dash panel houses a mini-20 fuse that was shorted. This was the problem, I replaced it with a new one and turn singals are working. I also found that this fuse controled the backup lights as well, so when we put it in reverse there were no backup lights and so we knew right there that the fuse was probably the problem and it was.
