I was just posting this for people that want to put a older TBI v8 into your newer astro .
http://fuelinjectionconnection.com/ sales wiring harnesses that makes it really easy , they sale one where you can keep your 4L80e trannee too . comes with instructions how to wire it up.
after pluging it into all your sensors , theres only 7 wires to hook up to be able to fire the engine , these seven wires are main power from your battery then a toggle switch from main battery to ignition wire , then you can put a push button starter switch from your starter wire to battery , fuel pump feed , service engine soon light to bulb then to ground ,run torqe convertor lockup wire to brake switch , ac clutch signal to ac clutch ,and park nutreul switch.

before you wire up this new harness take the old wiring that went to the multipoint fuel injection and temporary tie them up very securely out of your way .
after you get the new wiring installed and the old wiring tied up securely , you start the engine and get it running good , after your satisfied that it runs perfect , start removing the old multipoint fuel injection wiring , start with the ones you obviously dont need and remove them , after that if there are wires your unsure about , remove each wire you think you dont need 1 at a time , test your lights and turn signals and heating and cooling after disconnecting each wire if something quits working hook the wire back up and move to the next . you dont have to do it all at once take your time and make sure you dont get rid of nothing you need .

another option: get a 12volt power supply and take your old harness out and just rework it or get one from a junk yard to rework then you still have a vehicle to drive.

also have to fab up some fuel lines and modify your fuel pump , either put a fuel pump from a older van into the fuel pump housing of the newer van or take the fuel pump out of housing of the newer astro and replace it with a brake line or somthing simular and not have a fuel pump in the housing at all , and then just run a inline fuel pump

note: this wiring harness they sale just controls the engine , so your headlights and everything else will not be affected and will work from there normal switches headlight switch , heating and cooling switch etc.

this harness was a dream for me because it seems like the newer the cars are the more crap they put into them you get this harness and its like half of your problems are gone .
i dont know if they sale a harness for headlights and the rest of the electronics in the van , but i already modified my original down to what i need so i dont need one, i can remove 2 bolts and unplug 4 electrical connectors and be able to remove all of my electronics except for the engine wiring harness and it comes out just as easy but seperate. i cant stand to look under the dash of a newer car and see a million wires going every which way and not have a clue where they go.

if anybody has any info to add or if i have any wrong information please correct me for i'm still learning my self .

you can also go to the junkyard and get a engine wiring harness and rework it , basicly remove everything that does'nt pertain to running the engine , i did and it works great but does'nt look quite as clean as fuel injection connections engine harness , plus it takes some time and you better hope you dont chop somthing off you need , when i installed the one i made i was wondering if it was really going to fire up , i might buy one from them any way so i have one that will work with a 4L80e trannee as i was originally going to put a 700R4 in it
i have a picture of the one i reworked at the bottom. it looks kinda hairy but it works

Correction : i said to wire the wire that says service engine soon as follows (service engine soon light to bulb then to ground) that was incorrect
the correct way is to wire (service engine soon light to bulb then to Ignition)

hey guys.

yes it seems interesting, but as far as i "think" i heard the tbi ecu cant control the 4l60e, so how do they do it? or is it only the older tbi ecu that cant as they say its for an 94-95 tbi engine?

i have a 95 astro whit an blown engine, and have a 350" v8, v8 conversion brackets, and ecu from a 91 tbi astro (needs v8 chip) just waiting to go in the car. i think the engine is from around 90-92 so can it not be used?, or is it only the engine control unit that i need from 94-95 tbi donor to control 4l60e?

best regards from denmark.

The motor is probably fine, however the ECU isn't. You would want to find a 1995 ECU from a TBI 350 pickup with a 4L60E or at least a chip from one if the number of the ECU is the same as a truck application as above. All TBI ECUs are not created equal by any means. Some of them control basically nothing while some of them are fairly advanced and can do things like control a 4L60/4L80E transmission. The 95 is also OBD-1.5, and a chip from a 95 is required in your case due to transmission changes for that year. That is assuming your van is TBI as well. If it is a CPI van you will also need the harness out of a TBI van from the bulkhead connector back.

the van the v8tbi is to go into is a cpi, but i have a whole 91 tbi astro to part out. but like to keep the 4l60e thats in my 95 astro.

when you say "from the bulkhead connector back" is it from the big connector on firewall and out in the engine compartment you mean? or the whole thing inside the car i will need to put in the 95 astro?

or is it simply the best thing to take all the wire harness out of the 91 tbi, and move it to my 95 car and then use the harness shovn in this tread to combine the tbi/4l60e?

best regards, brian.

The heads are probably the biggest thing that determine what accessories you can use. too early you get stuck with virtually nothing, the mid stuff (86 and earlier) you don't get serpentine because there aren't enough holes in the heads. The question is what brackets he used if it's an "E" VIN van (carb) with V-belts it will probably take an A/C comrpessor no problem, however if he used the Nova brackets it may be some work. It should be pretty obvious if there's a spot there.
