When I bought this van it wouldn't start. I replaced the fuel pump and tuned it up with cap rotor plugs and wires installed a direct fit Cat but do not yet have the oxygen sensor in it(the old one broke) Van is sitting not being driven so the other night I stopped by to start it and run it for a while and after warming it up for about 20 minutes or so, I went to shut it off and turned off the ignition and pulled the key out but the darned thing kept running as if the ignition switch was still turned on. After jiggling around with the switch and steering column for a while I had to pull the ECMB fuse to get it to shut off. It was late and very cold(28 degrees) so i just disconnected the battery and went home. I have to say I have never heard of this one before. Has this happened to any of you guys? any thoughts are welcome, thanks....Dave

I would suspect the ignition switch or something with the ignition rod assembly.

Is there any funky wiring, or aftermarket accessories?
Yes there is a boatload of extra looking wiring under the steering column. This is a conversion van so I would imagine a lot of it is for additional lighting and such. There is also a remote starter setup under there though the remote battery is dead and I have yet to replace the battery. There is also a led and a small momentary push botton switch hanging there, not sure what that is for? sorry I don't have the van here or I would post up some pics. I will be heading to where the van is for Christmas and will get some pics up after that. The van started running like it was down one cylinder right before I tried to shut it down. I intend on trying to start it when I go over there tomorrow and see what happens then. Is the ignition rod assembly hard to adjust?

The momentary switch might be a valet switch for an alarm. I've never adjusted the ign. switch in theses vans, but if GM holds true to form it should just be a matter of loosening 2 screws and sliding the switch up or down and then retighten once everything works right.

The momentary switch is normally the programming switch for the remote. When the battery dies and you replace it, you have to pair the remote with the module again. The LED is to show you what state the system is in. You should also (based on those pieces) have an on/off toggle switch installed somewhere by your feet or knees.

This was the setup on my '89 240sx with a My Valet remote start/keyless entry system.
