the z motor is a non HO TBI (throttle body injection )86 to 94 astro vans, better of the 2 if you ask me cuz of reliability .

The W motor HO CPI (central port injection ) from 92 to 94 astro vans ,this injection system has had it problems & why they only kept it till 95 . the fuel pressure regulators go bad the spider injectors leak & the system as a whole was just unreliable .

from 92 to 94 both motors were an option in the astro safari , but the W motor was more prominante in those years .

I havent searched yet and i dont need a step by step list of how to do it and what parts are needed (not yet anyway) but, can a CBI engine be converted to TBI? Or even better to a Performance TBI from a major manufacturer?

I will search a little and ask the BIG questiions one I've a little more read up on it.

its not that it wasn't thought of , its just not really worth it . i did it when i put a 94 W motor in a 88 Z motor astro . it was easy for me cuz all i had to do was swap out motors , all the electrics were allready there . the difference in the harness & computers & sensors to change would be a real PIA. & you wind up with less horse power besides , granted the TBI is more reliable , but not worth the change over .

to put a 5.7 TBI in a astro with CPI is not all that dificult but you will need the harness computer & sensors from a v8 or v6 TBI system .

I guess this is getting into the V-8 section of the forum. But, If one has a TBI from something close in years, with the computer and complete engine harness then I'm assuming that all thats required is repinning the "chassis" computer plug for the TBI computer inputs and outputs and possiably extending wires. Correct?

I am finding out by looking at posted pictures that there is 2 plugs on the TBI computer. One is for the engine and the other is the chassis. Is this correct?

Moderators, I will stop posting here and move on to the V-8 forum but allowing a responce to would be appreciated.

thanks

I think posting in this section is acceptable, as it is covering a lot of general engine questions, be it V6 or V8.

Based on the people who have done the CPI->TBI V8 swap in the past, if you have a CPI van and get a TBI harness and ECU from the same year then install a 350's chip it will work. I think V8famvan did his this way. You'd just disconnect the harness at the firewall.

I havent really seen any thing about one actually being done. I seen a few posts [Rule 21 Violation] about going to do it and under way promissing to keeping those wanting to know informed but not much since thier last post promising updates.

When was the last time V8famvan was here? He's not on the list of members, but I might have missed him.
