Pam(last post about it)..Your '92 conversion van(just noticed) might be different and more complicated, maybe not.You should do a bit of exploratory work to see if it is somewhat the same..Sorry I didn't notice that before..but this carpet take out is for basic gen1 A &S vans.Compare yours to this 1990 original.

Rod..did you get that leak figured out...??? ..I didn't intend to take over the thread..sorry about that..(divert/delete the posts?..not a problem by me..)..
In building/construction..I've seen water run uphill under eaves and that ..why they usually added a small U channel under drip edges and bottoms of siding to stop it from doing that on close to level surfaces..On as much "rise" as the ribs have though from the side where the rails are mounted to the top of the console? seems a bit much for that from the rail mounts..what about condensation..frozen water inside.. ice melting.. above your insulating headliner..You think you found too much water involved for that? I have a ceiling console also..no water..
I mounted my own rails in a similar fashion as factory with nothing above the old headliner because I didn't know what would fit there or what condensation it would cause if I did insulate up there....???
Did you pull some trim and check the moisture at the rail mount point? Just wondering if I might be in for the same thing..or if you found something different.

Realityguy,
No, I currently do not have garage space, nor the time or ambition to dig into it. It is not high on my list as it was only a couple of tablespoons of water.
It may have only been condensation, as you suggested.
I can always hope.:):coffee:
After the weather warms up and my garage space gets freed up.......maybe!

Realityguy ....here R my vans back end ( excuse the mess ) NOTICE please I obviously 🙄 did this " incorrectly " as I guess your text comes first B4 one " adds" ones photos 📷 🤣
My leaking is as noticed by carpet on both sides with MORE on right is HERE & notice that the paneling interior is actually warped or pulling away from the window frame 🤔 😳 so UNSURE if thats due to moisture & leaking issue or BOTH? Those white containers on either side R my dryZair to help with the water ( lakes) that MY GIRL tends to accumulate when weather is wet whether I'm in Oregon or back in Washington which I haven't made it YET!
I have NO CLUE what the box is on the left side here 😐? The torq bit U said I would need 2 detach the strip to allow me to roll back the carpet & padding etc I SHOULD still be able 2 use irregardless of what " type" of ASTRO model I have , right? Can U or any of U smart fellas tell " what" model My RUTHIE " is?"
Until I discovered this site I knew not the difference between GEN 1's or the others U all have mentioned? I sure would appreciate some more " enlightening " 😆 THANKS

Okay..short note..take the back trim strip off and park on a hill with the front up so any water can run out the back..to see if you have any under the carpet. You should be able to lift the center point of the carpet to get a good look.Custom side walls that were probably fit in there and covered after the fit. Those windows used to have an inside trim that unscrews to sandwich the wakk between the inside and outside..perhaps that snaps out.The carpet might go under that wall. The "cover" is over the rear AC/heat unit and unscrews.
Again..the torx isn't needed..The screws in the trim piece are a medium phillips head. That should be all you need to unscrew it to see how bad it is.
If you have water..start a new thread to get off this one...and I'll respond there.

Rod..at one time I did have a leak above my windshield..in fact two of them.It appears that my windshield metal(plastic?) trim had shrunk and left a little open in from the corners with gap near the upper corners.I ended up filling those with silicone a couple times and under the top edge(lifted that up a little to do it) and it has quit.However..over the years it sat,the water did run down the edge of the laminated glass and fogged the edges on both ends.I DO need to get a new windshield someday. The ones at the wrecking yard don't seem to have the same seal..??For now it seems to be sealed and not leaking there.
My van "feels" damp inside(seats,etc..) but nothing leaking..so it might be the condensation thing.I've been starting it up and running my heater for a while..or using a freestanding milkhouse type 110volt one(with thermostat) inside to keep it drier.I added a 110v/15amp inlet plug/GFI on the back corner and three outlets inside so I can just "plug" the van in with a cord from the garage, when needed and still keep it locked up.
I'll also be getting more done when summer rolls around.I'll more than likely get my HF canopy back up in a month or two when the weather starts settling down. That works well.but I don't trust the wind and big branches right now.

Psst, you have the factory roof rack? The screws and nutserts can leak, after all, our vans are old. And, they are directly over a roof support u- channel.Yep, the channel right at the end of the o/h console. Could give a pic. if needed. Also, had to remove my front headliner years ago, winter van, because of mice, and actually saw daylight in a few spots, lol, but further down, like were the roof seam is. But never bothered me, as dryer climate here, and the seam never seemed to leak much, being vertical. But roof rack screws are known for leaking.
What product should I use to seal around the roof rack where it is screwed in?
