I would like to see what is in your Astro/ Safari Van's tool box!

I guess I'm a little nosey.

No really, I am hoping to help fellow new owners with a list of "must have tools"
It would be a great addition to the thread about emergency repairs on the go.

Thanks

Umm...

Linesman pliers
Needlenose pliers
Adjustable wrench
Screwdrivers: P2, slotted, shortie P2, shortie slotted
lacing wire (short coil)
electrical tape
flashlight (keep batteries separate - they last longer)
cheap socket set, but I upgraded the ratchet to a Craftsman that fits - has the half-metric sockets that GM uses (5.5, 6.5, 7.5 mm) - got it at pep boys for $10
flexy spark plug t-handle thingy and a spare plug and spare long wire
short bit of fuel line and 2 hose clamps
duct tape, plastic hose 'fixer' and 2 bigger hose clamps in case of rad hose failure (yes, I've had that happen on the road before with nothing to fix it until I got to a parts store)
telescoping magnet
telescoping mirror
couple shop rags
couple pairs of nitrile gloves in case of tire changing

I'm sure there's a couple more things I can't think of at the moment, but it's raining and I'm not going outside

Seriously, I don't think that is going to help the inner city owners.

I am looking to see what is in your tool box NOT your van.
TRUST me you don't wanna know what is in my van!!!!

Another reason for the ? was to help DECLUTTER the van, utilize only the space
needed and elminate extra weight and gain the freedom of the space to utilize at will
...........like going fishing!

sounds like a personal problem, lol.. I keep a collapsible fishing rod and a small box with hooks and lures in mine too!
aside from that, i travel with a ton of tools since I work out of it, and commute between Dallas and Houston ( about a 250 mile trip one way)
numerous needle nose of different shapes/sizes, deep and shallow metric sockets in 1/4" and 3/8" drive. a snap on 3/8" impact, an Ingersoll 1/2" impact, snap on 3/8" air ratchet, ingersoll 1/4" air ratchet, pneumatic hog ring pliers, a 30 gallon air compressor, 18" 1/2" drive breaker bar, ratchets, torx bits and sockets, hex bits, cordless drill/driver and accessories, etc etc etc................ pretty much a full tool box minus a lot of wrenches, 3 coolers,(one for dry goods, one for cold drinks and refrigerated food, and a small one to carry around, a small microwave,a mini gas grill, small floor jack.......getting the picture?

as I see it, the fishing rod is a SURVIVAL tool,if you managed to get lost and stranded, you have a means to get food, providing there's some water around.I have MRE's stashed in mine as well, knives,a recurve bow.....at any given time there may be a .30/06 or a 12 GA shotgun in there as well

OK only have had the van for about a month and I need to put this list together anyway.
some metric sockets and wrenches .
hillbilly fitalls (channel locks and visegrips)
screwdrivers and torx drivers.
hammer (must have)
duct tape
jumper cables or jumper box
some wire and wire strippers
a spare belt (as there is only one)
4 way lug wrench
a gallon of water
a tire gauge (it stays in the front as I check tires once a week)
a pair of gloves
paper towels
a road flare
a shovel
a small first aid kit
a blanket or two
a flashlight
a box to hold most of this stuff together
a knife

Well that is my list of things I would like to keep on hand.
I already have most of it but only some of it found its way into van.

I don't call my Astro a van, it's an AWD gang box.

If got most all the tools needed to build a house and trim it out.
That being said, I do have enough mech. tools to do most roadside repairs. Sockets, wrenches, various pliers and wire cutters, 30 plus screw drivers and countless driver bits of almost every kind and size. Shoot, I've even got tools I could use to do some bondo work and install a windshield.

I worked out of the back of an 86 C10 for 6 years. When she died, I decided no more digging through everything I own to find that one little dohickie I needed. So, $170 later, I have a nice set of custom built shelves, and I can access the top %90 used tools, %90 of the time, without even getting into the van. I still need to chop my truck in half (the city is [edited]whining[edited] bout my excessive sandfordness) to make a decent trailer for material(s), ladders, and pump jacks.

In anycase, Thanks for the compliment!
