I am trying to figure out what the wire on the back of my compressor is for. my new compressor does not have a spot to connect this wire. Is the wire that was connected to my old compressor a pressure switch?

If it's not a plug held in by a snap ring you may have the wrong compressor. Rebuilds are supposed to use the late bodies so that the switch port is available, they are delivered with a solid plug in place of the switch in case you don't need it. I don't know what happens if you run without the switch hooked up.

you can't jump the switch out? the back of the compressor had a plug held on by a snap ring. and it also had a spot with a tin glued down cover. the tin ripped on that cover thats probally a relief valve im guessing. I do HVAC only reason i took on this project. that and i like working on my cars.

it has a built in low pressure switch. I jumped the wires out. the compressor would start but untill i put enough gas in it around 18psi it would shut off. Im guessing these wires are probally for a high pressure switch. to shut it down if the condensor gets plugged to protect the compressor. For now i just stuck a piece of tstat wire into the plug as a jumper. My truck sounds nice now with its new ac compressor.
