.....and would you do it after so many miles??? Say 100k or or would it be after so many years??? I am wondering because I have a ruff running 2000 RWD Cargo Van 53k miles , it runs ruff at idol, and I am wondering if I should just start at the fuel filter then go to the air filter then move on down the list and see if I can figure it out of just get everything new and start fresh. I was reading how this other guy was having a hard time with the rotor and I dont want to get stuck with having to tow it to a Garage because I bit off more than I could chew! So what would be the "List" of things that should be changed??? Thanks for your help.

Normal maintenance-Delco plugs,wires,cap,rotor,and air filter,oil filter,fuel filter,tranny filter and fluid,cking rear end gear lube and greasing the steering links and u-joints is never bad advise.Atleast you are paying it forward to insure that the seat you left with is the one your coming to come home with.

If you have 53000 miles and never replaced the plugs I'd suggest you do so . You are more than ready for new ones .Personally I would never them in there for 100,000 miles.If you take off the cap and rotor you'll probably find out by looking at them that their also ready .

Hi nielswheels

List of things to change:
Tune Up:

-Air Filter (Your Choice)
-Gas Filter (Ac Delco)(3-4 months)
-Plugs (AC Delco Platinum)
-Wires (AC Delco or MSD)
-Cap (AC Delco)
-Rotor (AC Delco)
-PCV Valve (AC Delco)

Suggested tune-ups are at 100,000 (166,000 KM) Miles or 5 Years.

Is the distributor cap and rotor easy to replace?? Ive never done it and kind of scared to mess around with it, because i fell like im gonna screw it up somehow and it wont start after. lol
But i really need a tune-up, i dont remember the last time i had 1, but know its well over 5 years! :?

The Car and Rotor were very easy to change. My Father inlaw put them on in no time. Plugs came out easy and the wires were no problem. The hardest part was putting the plugs back in. We removed the front tires and used a swivel ratchet with a long extension and with a little patience had the in in no time. We have done all on the list that Matrixx wrote above except the fuel filter. Thats going in on Sunday. Any tricks to that? Am I going to need a shower after a rain of Fuel sprays on me?? Or is it a simple change?

Hi nielswheels

-The fuel filter is an easy change as long as you Pre-Soak anything that looks rusted that your going to be removing or loosening.
-It can get a bit messy and I would recommend a catch pan.
-I find it easier to loosen both fuel lines first before removing the bracket and bolt, this way you can allow the fuel to drain off as much as possible before actually removing it. You will still get some fuel draining from the filter, but it won't be as much.
-The fuel filters are a "One Way-Directional" install, so make sure you have the "arrow" pointing to the front of the vehicle or the "In" "out" follows the direction of the fuel flow (Back line from the fuel tank to the fuel filter is "In") (Front line leading from the fuel filter to the motor is "out").
-I use a little bit of grease on the threads to make it easier to replace next time around and works well.
-My recommendation for the fuel filter brand would be AC Delco for this particular application.

I did a complete tuneup on mine just after buying it with 77000 miles on the clock,the van had no power when I got it...
I replaced Plugs-Wires-Rotor-Cap-PCV-fuel & Air filters let me tell you the plugs are a pita you have to remove the rubber flap that is behind the front tires and use a long extension with a flex socket, just like 'nielswheels' said ...
I replaced the air filter by itself and noticed the biggest increase in power over the others...then I installed a Volant intake a Doug Thorley muffler new injector spider and after all that I still had a doggy running van but then I put some Cyclo Fuel Injector Cleaner in the tank... Whoa now I have a V8 or it at least feels like one I have found every 3rd tankfull I need to add Cyclo to keep it running strong...this gas at the pump is crap and it makes no difference if I run regular or super I still need the Cyclo to get rid of that "no power" feeling when excelerating from cruising speed
