I think Windows 8 will be released soon. I don't like the look of Metro, so I will be sticking with Windows 7. In my option, Windows XP and Windows 7 are the best versions released. Windows XP for the older computers, Windows 7 for the newer ones. What about you guys, are you gonna be using Windows 8?

When I bought my new notebook, I qualified for windows 8 pro stand alone for $14.95. I just registered to receive my copy during the next 3 weeks. I will try it and see what happens.

I'm not saying yes or no right now.. but I do like to move slow on these things. I've been a die-hard Windows NT user for most of my career so moving into 2000 and XP was a relatively comfortable transition.

I am a bit leery because when Windows ME came out, I was very very disappointed. It seems like 98SE was when they finally got the GUI on the DOS platform to work properly. And I felt the same way about Vista. So Win 8 will really have to be impressive.. and functional for me to make the switch.

EXACTLY, Ted! I had to be dragged kicking and screaming from 98 to XP. I have a netbook running 7 Starter, it takes over 30 minutes to boot up fully, then it's slow as mole-asses. I know a memory upgrade might help, but it's easier to just grab the older, faster, XP netbook. The wife's laptop runs 7 too, but I've never used it and don't intend to ever touch it. She uses it almost exclusively for school.

Now where'd I put that Win95 with USB support install CD...?

Mine's sitting right here in the drawer. Next to the 3.1 floppys. I even have a laptop that still runs 95. I don't use it for much, but that's just because I don't have any use for it.

I actually need an older, slower, DOS only machine to run some ham radio stuff on. I don't have any machines that are old enough. They're all too fast.

I have it right now (windows 8). It pretty much is nothing but windows 7 with the start menu removed and a start screen (metro) added. The only time you have to see the start screen is during a cold boot. I have downloaded a program from stardock called start8 which added the start button back. It also disables the hotspots. Pretty much makes it windows 7.

When I first tried it I had problems with video. That was due to no decent drivers for it. Nvidia got a good driver, which I installed, and all is pretty good. It is a little faster than windows 7 ultimate (I have windows 8 pro).

Of course my desktop is not really a slouch either.

AMD Phenom II 6core
8Gig RAM
Nvidia GTS450 video card
4TB worth of hard drive space
32" flatscreen 720p monitor @ 1360x768

Would I buy windows 8? That's a toss up. If I had a touch screen, yes. Since I don't, there isn't a need and the metro (start screen) is a nuisance when booting up the system. Thank God I'm a beta tester and haven't had to buy windows since win95.

That is a serious system! 8GB of RAM?! 4TB HDD!? Where did you get it, NASA? But I agree, it is really just like Windows 7. Thats why I'm sticking with Windows 7. No need to upgrade, I can put my money towards something else.

Nah, not NASA.. they were still running 8086 processors when I built this system. lol.

I was in need of a computer at the time so I found all the parts for it, pretty cheap. Unfortunately the max RAM this motherboard can hold is 8GB. I wanted a 32GB system, but failed to find one. This does everything I need it to without breaking a sweat. Well, except for running Android 4.0. It doesn't like AMD processors.

My tablet looks like windows 8, does that count also? (It's android)
