My wipers don't always work after start up but after driving for awhile they will work. I'm thinking it's in the switch, they will work on high even when no other setting works , just another one of those GM electrical gremlins

Gm was forced to issue a federal safety recall on these wiper motors. They have a ground problem. The original owners got a letter from gm.

that makes sense there was a ground jumper wire on the wiper motor when I got the van I have since hard wired a ground wire to it

i know this is an old post
but i have this problem now. i have been able to move the harness to get the wipers to move and have tied the harness so that there would be constant pressure. this only works for like an hour.i have tested the switch and have and it has power even when they stop and when it does stop, it make this high pitched buzz like the motor is jammed. i took the face off the wiper module. under it, i note that there are 2 brass fingers and alot of dielectric grease i mashed the old grease around to check for wear groves and found nothing on the disc, but i did note that both fingers have round brass soldered to the end of each finger. one has more wear than the other. after this i had no problems for a week, and it rained alot. but yesterday the wipers pulled the same thing.
the grease being moved around seems to have worked the best. if gm recalled this, what would their solution have been? can i get a different wiper assembly all together? maybe one from a newer model? maybe they might still honor the recall?

You can even get the pulse board without replacing the whole unit for $20-30 bucks in some cases, or like Leve said check everything over and resolder. I have repaired two pulse boards in the past, replaced the burnt out components and wa-la...

Take out the board and see if there are any cold solder joints on it. If there are, heat 'em up with a soldering iron and resolder the joints.
my room mate who lives in the basement is a studying aircraft electrical engineer. he tested the board for me and all the solder joints are good, but the problem is getting too unsafe and i need to solve this. if the board is good and the gound is good, plus, he tested the switch on the collum, anything else? the only thing that was ever pointed out is those 2 little spring connections from the board that contact that disc which i might assume is my wiper delay. my level of understanding electrical is limited to say the least. but one spring has a ball on the end and the other is only 1/2 a ball.... does my description make any sence? i have tried to take pics but when i zoom in, it's all blurred and of no help even if i posted it. i can't order one from the parts store cause they have no decription of that board, just the expensive complete unit!

To take pics of something up close, use the macro feature on your camera - in other words, push the button (or turn the knob to) the little picture of the flower. Now you'll have clear close-up pics ;)

When working with w/s wiper circuitry, don't forget that the darned things are not controling the 12v, they are controlling the ground. Other wise, when you turn off the switch, they wouldn't go to park. So you might say they are wired backwards...

i'm already not good with wiring... now i need to think backwards? if you tell me to jump up and down or click my heels. i'm going to to buy one made of gold...lol

is there any pics out there for the ground wire splice? that might help a bit.

this is the best pics i can get of what i see.... thanks Leeann

on the disc i see 2 different paths but there is no scoring on that disc. just wear on those ends comming from the board
