I was looking for a place to run some wire through the firewall. I found a bundle of wires going up into this black thing behind the battery. Does it come off? How? Can I run a couple more wires through here? Thanks in advance.

OK, if no one knows what it is, is there anyplace on the firewall where I can run a couple of wires without drilling a hole?

Electrical passthrough. I would just drill a hole nearby like: The Blue Beast 2003 AWD Safari
Thanks, I just decided to run through the grommet for the speedo cable. I'll attack it for a more permanent solution after my trip. Turns out that black block in my original post is a cover over a different type of connector. I took a closer look and it slides up when you pry the little tab out.

I run wires through the speedo cable grommet.. pretty safe spot.
A Will suggested, might also be best to just drill your own placing your own seal/grommet.
Of course, NEVER run wiring along bare cut metal.

Oh, so it's not the speedo cable? I wonder what it is.
