If you use the MaxxCam 2 the adapter sleeve with be the same for both ends.
The MaxxCam RS is strictly for S10 and will not work on the Astro.
There is an AstroCam that combines the insert from the RS with the arm of the MaxxCam 2. This will work if your are only trying to adjusted for spring sag.

The bars from sway away will be the 1.14 or 1.20.
The 1.24 bars will be extremely heavy for the Astro.
The 1.08 bars and lower bars are of no use to us.

There are also bars available from firmfeel.com
1.12 bar would be equal to stock Astro
And the 1.18 bar for extra capacity
This is, what I was not sure, if Maxxcam would work due to the size.
Any testing with torsion bars would be very expensive for me due to postal charges, so I would wait for your opinion. I checked all central Europe for the salvage parts and torsion bars are real problem, so I will have big issue, if I loose any.
Than I will be very happy to find decent solution for our problem.

The AWD front suspension is mostly based off the Chevy 1/2 ton (K1500/Silverado) pickup. The stock keys are modified to use the 1.5" hex with the same reach as the K1500/Silverado. MaxxCam 2 is for the K1500/Silverado

Yes, please wait for confirmation. This is still very much a work in progress. Once I get the quote on the adapters I will get the parts ordered and a test fit done.

The news is that brick walls are hard to get through and water jet cutting is very expensive for anything over tissue paper thickness. Quoted $220 for the 2 hex adapters.

Stil working with Larry @ Suspension Max to develop prototypes for the inner gear on the cam and hex adapter.

There's a guy I know locally who runs a water jet. I can reach out to him for an additional quote if you think it may be helpful. Also wondering if a group buy may be worthwhile to save a bit? There's also a Toyota fab shop that might be willing to work on the prototypes if we can provide most of the spec for the inner gear. Do we have a CAD file to provide, or is that what we need?

I'm good with waiting it out either way if you have solid contacts and want to own the process.

Hi,

‘’Herbie and others have been working to get firmer torsion bars fabricated in CA.

Hi all,

I followed up with Brian at Sway-A-Away about making torsion bars.

Brian has been great to work with and now has enough information to design and fabricate torsion bars that:
-are stiffer than the factory bars; and
-come with keys that are much more adjustable than the factory keys (important since the bars are stiffer)

I'm ordering a pair of rods/keys for my '93 AWD and Brian is finalizing the specs (rod diameter, configuration of the ends). He estimates 60 to 90 days before he can ship.

You can contact Brian directly at 818-700-9712 if you are interested in these bars/keys that he's developing.

Hi,
36” long torsion bars on newer Astro AWD vehicles, older ones used 41” long torsion bars.

I hope they get the hardness of metal right. Too soft then it will twist and not support the van. Too hard and it will shatter under heavy hit to the wheel. There is a range to these things that would be acceptable for this van. A good meteorologists can determine this by sampling a number of bars. Then would need to test the forged bars after to see if in range. All of it foundry science.

Hi ,

Yes, this shop has already experience fabricating firmer torsion bars for Chevy trucks.
The truck torsion bars are a different length and different spring rate than Astro.
since Astro torsion bars are no longer available from GM, or RockAuto, or Dorman, etc, it is promising to have a potential supplier.

When is Canada Day?

Hello my friends,

I need it to move forward and I am here.
I have bought torsion bars and I made inserts for tha bars. It looks good. The difference in the angle is 9-10 deg back for the new one, but they are more stiff so it is also no problems.

Ok here is update and I do not have good news for you.
I am upgrading 41" long torsion bars to sway a way 35.8" mopar A body bars. Those seems to me too long as you can see on the pictures.
If I measure effective length on the 41" bars it looks like should be arround 34.6" anything else means that bar is protruding from the lower control arm out.
I will need to make something on the control arm to hold better torsion bar.

Maybe make the adapter just a little bit longer to get full engagement, if it would be strong enough.

I’ve ordered a set of these from Sway Away, and they estimated a week or two for production. Fingers crossed these will work great on my 1995 Astro Tiger GT!

Please report back how they are! I'm realizing that I need new ones....
