Hose from rear differential?

Hose from rear differential?

Postby binder [OP] » May 7th 2011, 10:30pm

I just noticed that a hose has come loose from the underbody of my 98 Astro AWD. It comes from the top of the rear differential and is maybe a foot or longer and has a plastic piece/plug on the end. Nothing leaking from it. It appears it was held to the underbody and the mounting bracket rusted away. Is this an overflow hose? Nothing is leaking and the van is working properly. I just am not sure what this hose is for and if I should be concerned?

Overflow hose. Hang it back up where it was. Yes it is important. I dont think chevy's have the same problems as the Toyotas so you should be fine

If it's been out for any length of time, and you've driven through wet conditions, you may want to drain the differential and use the opportunity to refill it with fresh synthetic fluid. :2:
