Blew my pinion gear

Blew my pinion gear

Postby jeephunter16 [OP] » May 30th 2011, 7:31pm

Well I was out wheeling friday afternoon and i knew my rear cover was rotted and i planned on buying a new one Saturday. So i didn't know of it but Saturday morning when i was on my way to work my rearend was making an awful sound and all i could smell was burning gear oil. I get out to see smoke just pouring out of it and what little fluid was in it boiling. So what happened was, right on top of the cover i put a pin sized hole in it and all the fluid came out which cooked the gears. so i took a screw driver and made the whole bigger and dumped a bunch of gear lube down in. It was so hot that my bottle melted. After that i stuffed a rag in the whole and drove it the rest of the 20 miles. So after taking it apart Saturday I saw that my pinion gear is completely rounded which is pretty funny as nothing else was damaged. Also both my front wheel bearings are gone and my right tire is about to fall off. So basically I want to scrap the old 10 bolt and put in something beefier. Whats out there, I was going to put a posi in out of another rearend that i had before this happened.
