Gear Oil

Im doing my research into what type of gear oil to put in after a clean up, drain and regular maintenance on the rear gears... I've seen few people use the 75w140 but some used 80w90...

Little confused on this subject and wondering if I should be good using 75w140 on my 2004 with 69k??

If you're talking a good Synthetic like Ams/Oil super duty there is no down side to that weight but it would be way too heavy in northern winters if it's just sludge from out of the ground.

So up north here 80w90 is good? At least once or twice a month during summer I tow about 3000-3500lbs trailer.

That is what I use in Ky. -10 in the winter 100 in the summer.
I don't tow but a jet ski. I flogg it enough tho.

Do I need the gasket or can I just use silicone gasket max oil sealer?

You can just use the blue goo if that is all you have. I usually goo both sides of a gasket (Felpro) and slap it together.

Fill with (your choice) of gear oil, and drive away. Never had to change rear axles due to my choice of fluid, and I

can say I have well over a million miles of service out of the fleet...I guess I'm saying that the axle isn't all that fussy

when it comes to gear oil, as long as there is some in the punkin.

Rear-EndA differential is a device employing gears capable of transmitting torque and rotation through shafts. Essentially the differential allows each of the driving wheels to rotate at different speeds in the rear axle.
