How to fix large gap between rear cargo barn doors?

How to fix large gap between rear cargo barn doors?

Postby SeekingAstro [OP] » June 9th 2021, 7:32pm

There is a large gap in between my rear cargo doors, in the middle of the doors. There is no gap along the hinges, only in the center where the two doors come together. The driver's rear door has a large gap, and because of where this door sits, it causes a gap on the passenger side door as well. I will try to adjust the striker on the inside of the driver rear door to adjust where the passenger rear door sits, but until I can get the driver's rear door to sit right, that is kind of a waste of time. I have tried adjusting the top and bottom strikers on the driver's rear door, but there is little actual adjustment possible. Also, I have removed the top and bottom strikers completely, and the doors are still not coming together far enough in the center, there is a big gap. There is no adjustment on the hinge side. How can I make these doors close normally, like they should, without these gaps?

You need to bend or twist the doors and hinges to adjust doors on an astro.
Put a 2x4" at the bottom on the bumper so the door can't close and push on the top w/ your hands. Back up to a wall so you have something to push against.
Little bites at a time!

First adjust them to pull it in tight. Looks like it is half open to me.

Thanks, I'll give this a try! I don't suppose there are any videos of anyone doing this?

I have made all possible adjustments that I can see, and that's as far as it closes, even slamming it as hard as possible. And yeah, it still looks half open... that's the problem!

There is a catch at the top and bottom on the first door that shuts.

No videos I've ever seen, but I have not looked. Be the one, take a vid and post it up. Be sure to hold the camera on the diagonal, sixsix (Mike) loves watching vids and pics while standing on his head,,,
I've adjusted every drivers door of the three vans that I've had but never took pictures. You need to look carefully at where the strikers are, possibly the door frame got bent or tweaked to affect where they set. Also confirm it isn't the hinges binding before you take to bending the doors.

I'd bet an untied load shifted or some thing foolish like that.

More likely someone unhooked the stops and let the door swing against the taillight. In which case the door side hinge was tweaked slightly. Try placing something hard in the open hinge so that the hinge pinches down on it when trying to close the door.
