Door Hinge Pin Retainer Clips...

Door Hinge Pin Retainer Clips...

Postby WakkoWarner [OP] » June 17th 2017, 3:57am

I am getting ready to change out the driver side door hinge pins and bushings on a 2000 Astro. I am just wondering what the best way is to deal with the hinge pin retainer clips. If anyone has any ideas, your input will be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

The new pins should have new clips. Your replacing the bronze bushing and the pin with the clip.
Deal with them? I guess I don't understand the problem, drive the pin out, if the retainer breaks no big deal, if it takes out or damages the bushing it won't matter either.

I was just wondering what the best method was to remove the pins. I ended up just using a punch on them and they came out fairly easily. I hadn't dealt with that style of retainer before.

Gotcha, did it fix the issue? If the pins don't correct the problem the only adjustment that can be made to these doors involves 2x4 or maybe a hydraulic jack. We get a little "caveman" on them at least that's what my kids called it.

The door opens and closes fine - no more extra motion.
