Roof rack feet

Roof rack feet

Postby Thedivingpirate [OP] » September 6th 2017, 10:41pm

What is your opinion on these?

http://vantech.us/J-Series-Aluminum-Mou ... ea-M13.htm

I got the headliner out and want to mount some feet for the roof rack. I searched the forum and saw some really cool fabrication ideas, unfortunately I dont have the ability to fabricate my own.
I really need to take a welding class and start making my own stuff.
Thanks for your imput
Chris

Those look like they utilize the "gutters" of the van? Astros don't have those.

Looks like they can utilize tracks or an interior mounting brackets TNB.

I think they'd work fine -- you'd just need to get to the other side of the roof to mount the mounting brackets.

If you can find a steel version I'd say that's an OK design because you can tweak them. Aluminum might be ok for light duty use. Or just use a lot of them. I have had thick cast aluminum ones crack on my Land Cruiser rack, ones that appeared indestructible.

Thanks for the advice. I will look for some steel ones. I have a roof basket to attach and eventually an awning. I need it to be strong.

Check your local just, some truck caps have nice tracks that will work with Thule/ Yakima towers and accessories.

And yes, everyone should take a welding class!
